A new televised poker show is poised to make its debut in early 2014, bringing celebs, poker pros, and interactive poker action to homes across the U.S.
Rush Street Productions out of Chicago is heading up the effort, that's led by Heartland Poker Tour co-founder Todd Anderson. He'll be trying to translate his poker knowledge into an interesting poker show so they can bring the sport to millions of fans.
“We need to film the most important and the most productive poker events at premier venues,” said Anderson in an interview. "We’re going to bring a fresh technique to how poker is shown on TV, making the show relevant to the common viewer. We predict the arena is able to watch poker in a complete new way."
Details are still sketchy but Poker Night in America will include several different made-for-TV poker games that pit celebs, poker pros, and fans at home in various ways. Players can log in online at home and compete to win prizes in addition to the risk to seem at the show, as a way to tour the rustic and prevent in at different cities.
The first show can be filmed at Turning Stone Casino in August with plans to film a minimum of four additional events in 2013 with a planned TV debut in early 2014.
Poker shows have had mixed success within the U.S. within the past, appealing to a small pool of hardcore poker fans but struggling from time to time to draw a much broader audience. "High Stakes Poker", "Poker After Dark", and the arena Poker Tour broadcasts bounced around various networks and time slots during their runs, with just the arena Poker Tour surviving and still around.
ESPN's annual coverage of the arena Series of Poker remains the most well liked poker fare on television, largely propelled by the $10,000 buy-in Main Event that sees one player walk away with greater than $8 million most years.
