Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson has made billions from gambling but he's still against legal online poker and casino games within the U.S.
Momentum is building for legal online gambling in some U.S. states -- including Nevada and New Jersey -- but Sheldon Adelson continues to warn against the immoral dangers of gambling from the relaxation of your home.
Adelson recently penned an op-ed for Forbes where he made his stance clear, despite it being seemingly at odds for the CEO of Las Vegas Sands, one of the most world's largest gambling companies with operations within the U.S., Macau, and across the world.
"As an industry leader, and more importantly as a father, grandfather, citizen and patriot of this great country," writes Adelson in his op-ed, "I'M adamantly against the legalization and proliferation of online gaming."
Adelson fell back at the "click a mouse and lose your own home" line that online gambling opponents are fond of, in addition to occurring to warn that states chasing tax dollars from legalizing online casino and poker games are chasing "fool's gold".
Without citing any real facts or studies, Adelson boldly claimed that online gambling would cause brick-and-mortar casinos to chop over 400,000 jobs within the U.S. and that underage children would quickly be gambling online.
Adelson's role at Las Vegas Sands has made him one of the most world's richest men but he's swimming against the tide in relation to online gambling within the U.S., with most other major casino groups aggressively embracing the speculation and rolling out poker and casino games for guests to enjoy while gambling in states comparable to Nevada and New Jersey that experience already passed laws legalizing online gambling.
