Online sportsbook Bodog is now offering bettors the risk to position of venture on whether embattled Toronto mayor Rob Ford will remain in office.
Ford have been everywhere in the news headlines in recent weeks, admitting to smoking crack amid a slew of controversy and questions about his ability to effictively function mayor of Toronto.
Ford has refused to resign and early polls showed him actually gaining support in his approval ratings after admitting to binge drinking and smoking crack, incidents that were allegedly caught on video and turned over to police.
He's since been stripped of a few of his powers but there is no real mechanism to force him out of office in less he resigns, which resulted in online sportsbook Bodog posting lines a couple of week ago that provides punters the risk to wager on various outcomes of the Ford saga.
"Resign as mayor" has the longest odds at 9-4, with "Take temporary leave" at 3-2 and "Neither, will remain as mayor" the favourite at 1-1.
"The resign option is, we felt, probably the most unlikely thing,” said Adam Burns, sports book manager for Bodog in a up to date interview. “We have lower limits in this — about $100 — and it’s just roughly fun. We felt like this was a great time to do it because (Ford) says he doesn’t wish to resign and those in Toronto want him to take a leave. Ford has remained largely unapologetic, saying that he smoked crack "maybe once" and implied that other politicians partake in similar behavior. The town council of Toronto voted to strip Ford of many powers and to take 60% of his budget away, going as far as to switch probably the most locks within the mayor's office.
Ford also got more bad news on Tuesday when he discovered that his reality show sponsored by the tabloid Sun News Network was being cancelled after only one episode.
